Welcome to the Island Batik Ambassadors' Christmas in July Blog Hop! I posted a Contemporary Christmas quilt earlier this month (and I will get it quilted this week) but I have been working on a more traditional Christmas project that I wish to share.
Ok just so you know I love Christmas music and I listen to it year round, so to get you in the mood for my blog I am sharing this video. There is a clue here.
O Tannenbaum or O Christmas Tree. I don't know about you, but I love Christmas trees so I decided to make one with a quilt. Last fall at Quilt Market, I took a class from Jodi Barrows.
She is the one who created the unique method of Square in a Square quilting. She has written many books and has several rulers just for her technique. She showed the cutest Christmas Tree that she made and it is a free download from her website. It is called "All Spruced Up". I fell in love with it and knew that I had to make it. Well fortunately for me, Island Batik gave me this wonderful opportunity with Christmas in July to do just that.
I started with this gorgeous collection called Holiday Happenings! You can see all the fabrics here. Aren't they fun?
I auditioned the different colors to see what would look best for my Christmas tree. I had to have the green, the red and the gold. But what about decorations?
This piece of fabric was just "purrfect" for the decorations and there is even a star for the top. Do you see it near the bottom?
Per the directions from Jodi's video and the Square in a Square Reference book, I started on my Christmas tree journey.
My pile of little squares kept piling up and they looked so pretty.
I was so excited and couldn't wait to sew them together. And I was not disappointed when I did.
What do you think? Now Jodi has presents under her tree, but I have even started Christmas shopping yet, so my tree is bare right now.
This will be a lovely wall hanging and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up in a care package to a special young lady who will be going to Florida State University in the fall. This will be a little Christmas from home, made and sent with love.
I hope you have enjoyed my Christmas in July as much as I did. Thank you for stopping by. Be sure and check out the other Island Batik Ambassadors Blogs as there are some great Christmas projects!
Until next time,
Nan
